For many people, working from home means a lot more affection from their pets, lots more homemade coffee and an endless number of virtual meetings.
So with more and more people using online video conferencing platforms such as Zoom to replace their face-to-face meetings, we need to make sure that these are safe spaces.
Here are our top tips to keeping your next virtual meeting secure:
LIMIT SCREEN SHARING
The only person who can do this is the host of the meeting, but all they need to do is click the arrow next to the ‘Share Screen’ button on the bottom panel of the Zoom screen. An ‘Advanced Sharing Options’ button should appear and you will see the option ‘Who Can Share?’, from here just click ‘Host Only’, and you’re all set.
USE THE WAITING ROOM
Creating a Waiting Room for a meeting gives you slightly more control over who is joining the session. It puts all participants in a waiting room before the meeting starts. As the Host, you have the ability to allow people in one by one, or allow everyone to join. To set this up, just select ‘Account Management > Account Settings > Meeting > Waiting Room’ and you’re ready to go.
LOCK THE DOORS
Once a meeting has begun, the Host is able to Lock the Meeting to stop uninvited guests from joining the party. To do this, the Host just needs to click ‘Manage Participants’ in the bottom panel of their screen and select ‘Lock Meeting’, after that, you shouldn’t be seeing any unwanted gatecrashers joining your conversation.
For those of you who have a paid Zoom account, make sure to make the most of the ‘Invite Only’ set up for meetings - this will provide you with both a Meeting ID and Password that people need to access the meeting.
